You Know It's A Girl
How many ways have you heard of to predict the sex of your
baby? Do strangers on the street come up to you and speculate
about the sex based on how you are carrying, or the condition
of your skin? Have you tried the test where you suspend
your wedding ring by a thread and see how it spins? Believe
it or not, none of these legends has any validity -- not
even the rumor of faster heartbeats in boys (or was that
girls?). But it can be fun to speculate.
One of the most popular ways to predict the sex of your
unborn baby is done with a piece of string and the mother's
wedding ring. Have the mother lie down on a relatively
flat surface. Place the string through the ring and dangle
it over her pregnant stomach. Don't move the string yourself;
keep it as still as possible. If the ring moves back and
forth, then the baby is a boy. And, if the ring moves
in a circular fashion, then paint the nursery pink because
the baby's going to be a girl!
Even though the medical world completely "poo poos"
the idea, many mothers-to-be predict the sex of their
unborn baby by the position it's in. This method can especially
be accurate if the mother has been pregnant before.
Babies who lie low inside their mother's womb are thought
to be boys. On the other hand, if your baby is positioned
high, then it's a girl.
Another homemade way to predict the sex is based on numbers
as well. The mother uses her age at the time that the
baby was conceived. Then, add the number that correlates
to the month the baby was conceived in. That is, January
would be 1, February is 2, March is 3, and so on. Add
the mother's age to the month. If the resulting total
is an even number, then the sex of the unborn baby is
a boy. If the total is an uneven number, then the parents
should expect a girl.
